For Immediate Release: July 1, 2002

The final two spots for the 2002 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship were claimed today at sectional qualifying held at Allendale Country Club. Timothy Johnson (Marblehead, MA) captured medalist honors in dominant fashion, posting a 4-under par 140 score that bested second-place finisher Jon Curran (Hopkinton, MA) by nine strokes. Local youngsters Matt Hanlon (Hingham, MA) and Lee Incandela (Natick, MA) finished as first and fourth alternates, respectively.

Johnson and Curran will now join Garrett Wentzell (Worcester, MA) and out-of-towner John Saari (Lilburn, GA), who qualified at the first day of sectional qualifying held last week at Kettle Brook Golf Club, at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. The Championship event will be held on July 23-27 at Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth, Georgia.
