For Immediate Release: May 23, 2002

Local qualifying for the 2002 U.S. Open Championship has come to an end, and many local players will be taking the next step towards the Championship which will be held in Bethpage (NY) on June 13-16.

Beginning on May 6th, Massachusetts golfers battled for the precious qualifying slots at sites across the country. And in the end the state will be well represented at Sectional qualifying as 11 Massachusetts golfers earned qualifying spots, while an additional 12 finished as alternates.

As the players prepare for Sectional qualifying, here is rundown on the local golfers who will be taking that all-important next step.
