Local amateur Kevin Quinn (Needham, MA) captured medalist honors
this afternoon at U.S. Open Local Qualifying that was held at Olde Barnstable
Fairgounds GC. Quinn finished at even par 71 for the day and was one of three
competitors who earned the right to advance to U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying,
which will take place next month.
Also qualifying today with scores of 3-over 74 were Adam Hemeon (Marion, MA), assistant golf professional at The Kittansett Club, and Timothy Hegna (Bird Island, MN), a professional who hails from Bird Island, Minnesota.
Chip Johnson (Marshfield, MA) of Hatherly CC was first alternate with a score of 4-over 75, while Mike Calef (West Bridgewater, MA), an amateur out of Thorny Lea GC, Cory Huss of Woodstock, GA and John Scheffler (Chatham, MA) from Ocean Edge GC finished out the field of alternates. The four alternate spots were decided by a playoff.
U.S. Open Local Qualifying will also take place on May 20th at Ipswich CC and Taconic GC.
