News Release
For Immediate Release: June 13, 2001
On the final day of qualifying, Rod Curl (Jupiter, FL) shot a 1
under par 70 to claim the fourth and final qualifying spot for the U.S. Senior
Open Championship, which will be held on June 28-July 1 at Salem CC in Peabody,
MA.
Curl, a 25-year PGA Tour member, was one of 52 competitors who were vying for that final spot at New England CC on Thursday afternoon. A field of 120 golfers completed their qualifying round at Plymouth CC on Wednesday afternoon. Due to the high number of applications received for U.S. Senior Open Qualifying, the MGA was forced to secure a second site for the overflow.
On Wednesday, James Sheerin (Rye Beach, NH), Jim King (Lake Worth, FL) and amateur Steven Swedberg (Danvers, MA) finished at 2 under par 67 to earn a berth into the U.S. Senior Open. Curl, who edged out amateur Michael Berube (Waltham, MA), will now join Sheerin, King and Swedberg at Salem CC in two weeks.
