The Massachusetts Golf Association’s 37th Annual Spring
Conference – "A Salute to The Ryder Cup" will be held on Tuesday,
March 9, 1999 at The Westin Copley Place Boston at 4:00 p.m.
This year’s Spring Conference theme is "A Salute to The Ryder Cup". We are pleased to announce, Peter Kessler of The Golf Channel will be the evening’s host, recreating the popular program "Golf Talk Live", featuring a select group of Ryder Cup dignitaries. We are honored to have Will Mann, President of the PGA of America, John Cornish, The Country Club’s General Chairman for the 33rd Ryder Cup Matches and world-renowned architect Rees Jones who restored the championship course at The Country Club prior to the 1988 U.S. Open.
A few special guests, former and future Ryder Cup participants, will also join the program offering their perspectives on past matches and on the imminent September showdown.
The Massachusetts Golf Association’s Spring Conference has become an annual "Rite of Spring" to kickoff the new golf season. Typically the event is attended by member club directors, committee chairmen, staff, and members. This year’s conference is open to the public. Ticket prices are $40 each or 10 tickets for $350.
All attendees are invited to a reception offering refreshments, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction immediately following the program. Items featured in the silent auction include a U.S. Ryder Cup Team Golf Bag autographed by Captain Ben Crenshaw, Ryder Cup tickets, Ryder Cup apparel and the opportunity to play the inaugural 1927 Ryder Cup site, Worcester Country Club, or the 1999 Ryder Cup site, The Country Club in Brookline. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the MGA’s Inner City Youth Golf Programs serving over 2000 underprivileged Massachusetts children.
Peter Kessler, The Golf Channel’s golf historian, is the host of four shows – Golf Talk Live, Golf Academy Live, Viewer’s Forum and Masters Highlights. Kessler has welcomed over 200 guests to both Golf Talk Live and Academy Live including Arnold Palmer, Gene Sarazen, Tiger Woods, Nancy Lopez, to name a few. Prior to joining The Golf Channel, Kessler was the voice of HBO Sports and narrated projects such as the Peabody, Ace and Emmy Award-winning documentaries, "When It Was A Game I & II," and the Ace and Emmy Award-winning boxing trilogy "In This Corner."
