News Release
For Immediate Release: October 8, 1998
The Massachusetts Golf Association announced that all 1999 MGA Championships
will prohibit shoes with traditionally-designed spikes (regardless of composition,
i.e., ceramic plastic, etc.) or spikes, regardless of design, comprised either
entirely or partially of metal (when such metal comes into contact with the
surface of the putting green.) The new policy, enacted to minimize the damage
caused to greens at the member clubs used by the Association, is in effect
for qualifying competitions as well as championships.
