News Release

For Immediate Release: October 8, 1998

Ed Fletcher of Bay Pointe Country Club is the 1998 recipient of the first Massachusetts Golf Association Senior Player of the Year Award. In 1995 at Concord Country Club, Fletcher became the oldest player ever to win the Massachusetts Amateur Championship, defeating John Curley in the finals. With his win in the 1998 Massachusetts Senior Championship, Fletcher becomes only the third player to win both the Amateur and the Senior behind William Blaney and Ted Bishop.

Other highlights of Fletcher's season include a win at the inaugural New England Senior Amateur Championship, advancing to match play at the Massachusetts Amateur Championship, and qualifying for the United States Senior Amateur Championship.

Fletcher will be honored along with Richard D. Haskell MGA Player of the Year Justin Peters, Christopher Cutler Rich Junior Player of the Year Kenneth Lewis, and the winners of all 1998 MGA Championships at a Champions Dinner in January.
