OVERVIEW

The Women’s Spring Team Matches are a statewide tournament consisting of 5 matches played on Thursdays (April & May) between Massachusetts Golf Association Member Club teams – all active Member Clubs are eligible beginning in 2018. The format is individual head-to-head match play using full handicaps.

A team consists of 5 players from the same Member Club who are committed to play and listed on a set roster. Substitutes may be used when necessary and an effort should be made to find a substitute with a similar handicap index. A club may have up to three teams (max).

Each participating Member Club must allow one match per team to be played at their course. At least two dates must be available for each team and if a club is fielding 3 teams then all five dates must be available. By registering for Spring Teams, a Member Club agrees to be a host.

Teams are organized into cups -- six teams per cup. One team is a travel team and does not host.

New for 2018: The first three “Premier Cups” are determined solely on the basis of the aggregate of the handicap indices of the team roster and may have longer travel times. All other cups are determined by a combination of the aggregate of the indices and Member Club location.

REGISTRATION

Registration for Women’s Spring Teams will be available online ONLY in 2018, and will open on Thursday, November 2, 2017. The entry close date will be Thursday, December 14, 2017 @ 4pm – credit card transactions will take place in early 2018 by way of a follow up email communication. Only one person from a Member Club club can complete the registration for up to three teams (max).

Through the balance of 2017, please contact the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts office (774.430.9010 or info@wgam.org) if you are going to be the person responsible for Women’s Spring Team registration (Chairperson) so we can assist you/set up access.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/DETAILS

As one merged organization in 2018 (Massachusetts Golf Association), there will be no WGAM dues going forward for either individual members or Member Clubs. Any female player with an active GHIN number/handicap index from a Massachusetts Golf Association Member Club is eligible to play on that club’s Spring Team(s).

Eligibility - A player must have a handicap index of 36.0 or less and must have posted five (5) 18-hole scores during the 2017 golf season. The handicap revision of November 1, 2017 will be used for all matches. Each Women’s Spring Team Chairperson will be responsible for verifying player eligibility.

The entry fee for 2018 is $160 per team. Golf carts and lunch are mandatory for each event (at the player’s expense) – paid directly to the host club.

Each team must be fielded according to handicap indices from the lowest to the highest.

It is anticipated that all cups will have 6 teams. Extraordinary circumstances may result in a cup(s) having less than six teams.

No match shall begin before 8:30 a.m.

Shotguns, modified shotguns and tee times may be used to start the 30 players. It is preferred that shotgun starts be used whenever possible and that matches be played in twosomes. However, the participating/host Member Clubs should be given the option for matches to be played in groups of four, if preferred.
