Southwick, MA — On the heels of a successful 2017 Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship, the Massachusetts Golf Association announced The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick as the host site for the 2018 Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship.

The 2018 Massachusetts APL Championship, to be contested July 30-31, 2018, will be the second Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship to be held at The Ranch Golf Club. The club last hosted this event in 2006.

“The MGA is excited to return to The Ranch Golf Club and to bring this important and popular event to Southwick,” said Kevin Eldridge, the MGA’s director of rules & competition. “The response that we had in 2006 was overwhelmingly positive and we are grateful for the opportunity to return and continue the great tradition of this championship.”

At The Ranch Golf Club in 2006 Bill Drohen captured what was his second Massachusetts Public Links Championship in three years, firing a final-round 1-under-par 71 to take a one-stroke victory. Drohen finished with a two- round total of 4-under 140, one shot better than Daniel Falcucci of Cyprian Keyes Golf Club.

The Ranch Golf Club will become only the fifth course to host two or more Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championships. George Wright Golf Club hosted the event for 11 straight years from 1983 to 1993. Cranberry Valley Golf Course (2005, 2014), Maplegate Country Club (1995, 2004) and New England Country Club (2002, 2007) each held the championship twice.

The Ranch Golf Club first opened for play in 2001. The course was designed by Damian Pascuzzo on a site that was “a family dairy farm with two 100-year old barns as its centerpierce. Using those barns as a gateway, the golf course was routed through the surrounding open pastures before working its way through a forrested upland area.”

In 2002, Golf Digest named it as one of the top new public courses in America.
