Headline: Nine Junior Amateur Golfers Advance to Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship Following a Qualifier Held at Ould Newbury GC

For Immediate Release: June 29, 2017

A third day of MGA Junior Amateur Qualifying was held at Ould Newbury Golf Club on June 29.

Newbury, MA — North Andover’s Thomas Finn (Merrimack Valley) registered four birdies and finished at 3-over par 73 to earn medalist honors and qualify for next month’s Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship, which will be held at Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley.

Finn was the low scorer of the nine who advanced from Thursday’s qualifier at Ould Newbury Golf Club. It was the fourth of sixth junior amateur qualifiers to take place with the final two scheduled for July 5 and July 6, respectively.

Thursday’s qualifying scores, which ranged from Finn’s 3-over par 73 to 7-over par 77, included one competitor, Ryan Henderson (Blackstone GC), who holds “Pre-Junior” status (aged 14-15), which upped the total number of PJ qualifiers to three for the MGA qualifying season.

In total, 40 competitors have qualified for the Championship Proper to date, which is being held from July 31-August 2.

On Thursday, an additional two competitors who shot an 8-over par 78 were named alternates and will be placed on the alternate list per the alternate policy that is available on the MGA Policies and Procedures Page.
