Registration for all WGAM events goes live on April 3rd..

Norton, MA — With golf season officially going live in the Bay State on Saturday, April 1, the date on which MGA members with handicap indexes can begin posting scores from rounds played on Massachusetts golf courses, the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts (WGAM) is also preparing for its own season.

The organization recently unveiled its complete schedule for the 2017 season, which features 23 events held from April through October.

The announcement by WGAM Executive Director Cathleen Beach came in advance of the "go live" date for online registration, which begins this Monday, April 3 at 7:00 a.m. EST.

“We are excited to once again begin what will be an exciting season for women’s golf in the Bay State,” said Beach. “Over the past several months, our staff has been hard at work putting together a schedule which we believe will be both competitive and enjoyable for all players. Monday’s registration marks the beginning of that schedule.”

This year’s WGAM schedule will kick off with the very popular Spring Team matches, scheduled to take place on five straight Thursdays beginning April 27. The matches will see 765 individuals competing against opposing squads from fellow clubs, with one team member playing a handicap match against an opposing team member in each respective Cup, as determined by the rotating schedule. Each match will be played in twosomes and will be held at various clubs across the Bay State.

Following Spring Team Matches, the first single day WGAM tournament will be held May 24 at Gannon Municipal Golf Course for the Eleanor W. Allen Bowl. The 18-hole four-ball stroke play tournament is open to players in the Class C, D and E indexes.

The WGAM will host nine tournaments that are open to all handicap index classes, beginning with the Dolly Sullivan Tournament (June 12 or 19 – Segregansett CC), followed by the Mother & Daughter (July 6 - CC of New Bedford), Member & Junior Tournament (July 6 – CC of New Bedford), the Mother & Son (July 18 – Waubeeka GL) and the Curtis Bowl (July 19 – Taconic GC).

This year’s WGAM Amateur Championship & Presidents’ Cup, the 114th in the association’s history, is taking place at Myopia Hunt Club the week of July 31 and will see Jacquelyn Eleey looking for a repeat at WGAM Amateur Champion, while Mary Chamberlain will also seek to repeat as Presidents’ Cup Champion.

The WGAM Amateur Championship is open to WGAM players with a current GHIN handicap from a member club with a handicap index not exceeding 14.0. Once again, the Amateur Championship will consist of one day of 18-hole stroke play qualifying for two flights. The top 32 in both the Champion flight and President’s Cup flight will advance to match play, with three days of match play each day taking place to determine each winner.

August will feature two WGAM tournaments, the Senior Championships at Indian Pond CC (August 15/16) and the Eleanor I. Labonte Tournament at the Orchards GC (August 28).

The WGAM will manage seven tournaments in the fall, beginning with the Fall Cup Regional Matches. The Stone Cup, October 30-31 at Marshfield Country Club, will be the final WGAM of the calendar year.
