Norton, MA — The MGA has added four sites to their 2017 Member Day Schedule, upping the total to 19 sites for the popular service provided to MGA Member Golfers – male or female – who hold a current MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index with an MGA Member Club. The announcement follows the work completed by MGA Assistant Director of Rules & Competition Shawn Bennett and new full-time staff member Drew Rosen, MGA Manager of member Events and Services.

New to the schedule for 2017 include Member Days at Plymouth Country Club, Ledgemont Country Club, Country Club of Halifax and most recently added, Sharon Country Club. The dates of the four new sites are May 18, July 24, July 31 and September 18, respectively.

“We are very excited to add these additional sites to the MGA Calendar” said Bennett. “Without question, the Member Day program is the most popular item that an MGA membership provides and we hope that these additional sites will allow even more members the opportunity to participate in the events, held at some of the top private clubs in the Bay State.”

The opportunity, determined by the lottery system that was created prior to last year’s season, offers an affordable, casual and fun atmosphere for all, while also providing tournament experience for those looking for healthy and spirited competition. With pro shop credit awarded to the top players in each flight, each of the 18 scheduled events allow golfers to either play competitively or simply enjoy a mid-week round of golf.

Depending on the club’s layout, each Member Day event can range from 48 golfers to as many as 120 and will feature either tee times or a shotgun start, depending on the venue. As of the date of publication, more than 5,200 spots had been requested for the 18 Member Day sites.

While it is understood that the lottery cannot place each person who makes a request via the lottery system, it is the goal that these additional sites to the schedule will allow for maximum participation.

Additionally, it was recently announced that to kick off the first Member Day of the season, scheduled for Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow on May 1st, all participants who are chosen via the lottery will be automatically entered to win a pair of tickets to the 38th playing of the U.S. Senior Open Championship, being held at Salem Country Club June 29-July 2.

The drawing will take place at the course following the conclusion of play and the two tickets, which can be used to any one of the Championship rounds, and will be offered as a way to celebrate two exciting events for the game of golf here in the Bay State.

The Member Day program enters its seventh season in 2017 and the USGA Senior Open Championship, making its return to Salem Country Club for the first time since 2001, marks the 57th time that a USGA Championship Proper will be hosted in the Commonwealth.
