Headline: Fourth Day of Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship Sees Eight Golfers Advance to the 2017 Championship Proper

A fourth day of MGA Junior Amateur Qualifying was held at Furnace Brook Golf Club on July 5.

Quincy, MA — Eight more junior golfers can book their tickets to the 99th playing of the Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship later this month after qualifying Wednesday at Quincy’s Furnace Brook Golf Club.

With scores ranging even par-70 to 5-over par 75, the field of junior amateur competitors has now grown to 47 through five qualifying sites, with the sixth and final qualifier of the season being held tomorrow, July 6, at Amherst Golf Club.

Atop the leaderboard upon completion of play Wednesday was Marshfield CC’s Will Strauss, who carded an even-par 70 to earn medalist honors and placement into the July 31-August 2 Championship Proper being held at Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley.

The 17-year old Strauss, who finished T40 at last year’s Proper, recorded four birdies in addition to this 10 made pars.

In addition to the eight qualifiers, two competitors who shot a 6-over par 76, or one stroke above the last qualifying spot, were named alternates and will be placed on the alternate list per the alternate policy that is available on the MGA Policies and Procedures Page.

The MGA junior amateur qualifying season will conclude Thursday, July 6 at Amherst Golf Club where 21 competitors will eye the remaining qualifying spots ahead of the Championship Proper.
