Marshfield, MA —While Labor Day may already be crossed off the calendar, there is still plenty of golf left in the 2016 season.

That statement couldn’t be anymore true than at Marshfield Country Club on Wednesday, where a U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball qualifier saw three teams advance to the 2017 Championship Proper, being held at Myrtle Beach’s The Dunes Golf & Beach Club next May.

The three teams, which featured three collegiate players, as well as the 2015 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Championship Runner-Up Pamela Kuong (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) and her partner Susan Curtin (Westwood, Mass.), tallied scores of 5-under par 67, 3-under par 69, and even par 72 to officially book their tickets to the 2017 Memorial Day Weekend Tournament, which will be contested on May 27-31, 2017.

Atop the leaderboard on this day was the sister duo of Camilla Vik and Susana Vik.

The Greenwich, Connecticut natives posted a medalist score of 5-under par 67 to advance to the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship Proper for the second time in three years.

“Two years ago, we got to play it and it was so much fun and so nice to get to go out there with your sister,” said the elder Camilla, a senior at Columbia University and member of the women’s golf team. “Knowing what we are getting into is very exciting.”

Looking to build off their 2015 run, which saw the duo advance to the round of 32, Camilla and Susana relied on each other in one of golf’s unique tournaments where competitors play as a team.

“It’s so fun to have a partner because it’s such an individual’s sport,” said Susana, a high school senior looking to compete at the collegiate level beginning next fall.

“We each played our game, but supported each other,” said Susana.

Camilla added, “One of the things we did really well today was that if [one of us] missed the green, we just tried to chip up and make par and then the other person could really focus on making a birdie. We did a lot thinking to make each other comfortable with their shots and to make them feel they could go for it.”

On the front nine, the Vik sisters tallied four birdies and were 4-under par through nine holes. They finished with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole that sits at 409 yards to conclude their round at 5-under par 67.

Taking second place at 3-under par 69 was the duo of Julia Calbi (South Barrington, Ill.) and Isabelle Kane (Winnetka, Ill.), sophomore and junior members of the Dartmouth College women’s golf team, respectively.

Much like the Vik team, Calbi and Kane recorded four birdies on the front nine of the Wayne E. Styles designed course located in Southeastern Massachusetts and finished the day with a fifth birdie on the last of 18 holes.

A pair of bogeys on the 6th and 16th holes, which are both par 3’s, prevented the two from taking the top spot, but their overall score was more than enough to advance to Myrtle Beach next May.

Rounding out the group of three teams to qualify was the tandem of Curtin and Kuong, who posted an even par-72 on Wednesday. They then survived a sudden-death playoff that lasted two holes for the final guaranteed spot.

Curtin and Kuong combined for three birdies and nine pars through the first 12 holes to help eventually secure their spot. Later this month, Kuong will compete at the 2016 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Championship, which is being held at Wellesley Country Club.

In tight contention down the stretch was another collegiate pair - the team of Megan Carter (Waycross, Ga.) and Adela Cejnarova (Boston, Mass.) - who are teammates at Boston University. The Terrior duo finished as runners-ups at the 2016 Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship. Cejnarova, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, has won the previous two Patriot League Individual titles.

After matching scores to Curtin and Kuong with three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars, the two teams battled for the final qualifying spot in a sudden-death playoff that lasted two holes.

After both teams carded matching scores on the 1st hole, the first playoff hole, Curtin and Kuong made birdie on the 18th hole, the second playoff hole, to end the playoff and secure the final spot to the 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball Championship.

Carter and Cejnarova finished as first alternates, while Mercedese Large (Bloomfield, Conn.) and Mim Schreck (Stratford, Conn.) - with scores of 1-over par 73 - were second alternates.
