Dudley, MA — The field for the Massachusetts Super Senior Championship September 28-29 at Cummaquid Golf Club came one step closer to fruition on Wednesday as the final eight players in the Championship Proper field were determined in the third and final qualifier, held at Dudley Hill GC.

Each taking a share of the top spot on the leaderboard were Paul Chiampa (Longmeadow CC) and Samuel Martin (Cape Cod CC), who both fired 6-over par 78 in the round of 18 on the course located in central Massachusetts.

In Wednesday’s round, Chiampa tallied nine pars and two birdies, including the par-5 8th hole, the course’s second longest hole at 477 yards, and the 321 yard par-4 14th hole.

While Martin didn’t have any birdies, he did record 14 pars en route to securing his tying spot atop the leaderboard. His 14 pars were the most among the eight to have qualified for the third annual Championship Proper, suited for golfers who hold membership at an MGA club and who are 65 years of age or older.

The scores for the remaining six players who advanced to the Championship Proper ranged from 7-over par 79 to 11-over par 83.

An additional three players who shot 12-over par 84 were named alternates and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the MGA Policies & Procedures page.

Entries are open to amateur golfers who hold membership in an MGA member club, who have reached their 65th birthday by September 28, 2016 and have an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 12.0 (as determined by the July 15, 2016 Handicap Revision) or have completed their handicap certification.
