Headline: Second Qualifying Round for 2016 Massachusetts Super Senior Amateur Championship Held on Tuesday at Rockport Golf Club

Rockport, MA — A total of 14 competitors posted scores between a 4-over and 11-over at Rockport Golf Club on Tuesday to qualify for the 2016 Massachusetts Super Senior Amateur Championship, being contested on September 28-29 at Cummaquid GC.

It was the second of three qualifiers being held for the third annual Championship Proper, the final MGA event of the 2016 competitive season.

Tied for medalist honors were Douglas Dowling (Mink Meadows GC)and Stephen Molis (Pocasset GC), who both finished at 4-over par 74 in the 18-hole round to lead the group of players who will advance to next month’s Championship. Dowling made three birdies and nine pars, while Molis registered two birdies and 10 pars.

In addition to the 14 qualifiers, two alternate spots were garnered by Ken Hughes (Vesper CC) and Barry Donovan (Woburn CC), who each finished at 12-over par 82 and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the MGA Policies & Procedures page.

The final field of qualifiers will compete next Wednesday, September 7, at Dudley Hill GC where eight qualifiers and ties will advance to the Championship Proper being played in Yarmouthport.

Entries are open to amateur golfers who hold membership in an MGA member club, who have reached their 65th birthday by September 28, 2016 and have an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 12.0 (as determined by the July 15, 2016 Handicap Revision) or have completed their handicap certification.
