The day’s lowest score went to three people, including a pair of golfers from Blackstone GC, who each shot 2-over par 74 to lead the group of players who will move on to the three-day tournament in September.

Paul Ferraro and Randy Daniels, both of Blackstone, as well as Jason Finne (Pleasant Valley CC)combined for 7 birdies and 36 made pars in the 18-hole contest Wednesday.

Ferraro opened up his round with a par-3 on the first hole, a par-4 that sits at 422 yards, while Daniels had three birdies within a span of four holes, including holes No. 9, 11 and 12.

For Finne, who tallied two bogeys and a double on the front nine, the back nine proved to be the difference maker as the PVCC member recorded 7 pars and two birdies, of which both were on par-5’s.

Two players finished T4 (3-over par 75), four-finished T6 (4-over 76), two finished at T10 (5-over 77) and six others at T12 (6-over 78) to round out the scoring among those who qualified.

Four of Wednesday’s competitors who shot 7-over par 79 were named alternates and will be placed on a priority list per the MGA Alternate Policy, which can be found on the MGA Policies & Procedures page.

The MGA will have two more qualifiers ahead of the Championship Proper. On August 11, the MGA will be at Tekoa CC where eight qualifiers and ties will advance, while on August 11, and MGA Mid-Amateur qualifier will be held at Cape Cod CC- a site that will see 18 qualifiers and ties move on to Falmouth.

Entries are open to amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by September 20, 2016, who hold membership at an MGA member club and have an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 5.4 (as determined by the July 1, 2016 Handicap Revision), or who have completed their handicap certification.
