Securing their spots after topping the leaderboard were a trio of players who shot 2-under par 70 on the Brian Silva-designed course.

Cameron Shaw (Poquoy Brook GC), Bud Schultz (Black Rock CC) and Guy Lansing (Plymouth CC) led the group of 45 players who played Thursday when they combined for an eagle and nine birdies.

Shaw made eagle on the 356 yard, par 4 2nd hole and then carded birdie on the 9th hole before making par on each of the final nine holes. Schultz had a pair of back-to-back birdies, the first on Holes 4 and 5 and the second on Holes 16 and 17. He also added an additional birdie on the 341-yard, par 4 10th hole, to earn his spot among the top players. Lansing, meanwhile, carded three birdies on the front nine and added his fourth on Hole 15 to round out his day.

D.W. Field GC golfer Bruce Wedge placed fourth on the leaderboard by shooting an even par 72, the result of three birdies and three bogeys.

In addition to the 10 qualifiers, three players shot 5-over 77 and were named alternates. They will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the MGA Policies & Procedures page.

The final qualifier for the MGA Senior Amateur Championship will be held at Veterans Memorial GC on August 24, where six qualifiers and ties will advance to the two-day Championship Proper.

Entries are open to amateur golfers who hold membership in an MGA member club, who have reached their 55th birthday by September 12, 2016 and have an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 8.0 (as determined by the July 1, 2016 Handicap Revision) or have completed their handicap certification..
