Olde Scotland Links hosted an MGA APL qualifier on June 30.

Norton, MA — On Thursday, another 27 competitors were added to the MGA Amateur Public Links Championship field after making the cut at Bridgewater’s Olde Scotland Links – the third of six courses to host qualifiers for the 35th playing of the state tournament, scheduled for August 7-8 at Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown.

Two players, Alex Jacobson (Presidents GC) and Jeff Bastien (Blackstone GC) each posted scoers of even par 72 to finish T1 on the day. Jacobson recorded six birdies on the day, while Bastien recorded birdies on his final three holes, a par-3, par-4 and par-5 respectively, en route to finishing with five total for a share of the lead Thursday.

A trio of other amateurs placed T3, posting scores of 2-over par 74.

Besides the 27 golfers who shot 8-over par or better, an additional four alternates were placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy that can be found on the MGA Policies & Procedures page.

Three additional qualifiers for the APL Championships remain with Westover GC hosting next on July 5 with Holden Hills GC and Gannon Municipal GC hosting qualifiers on July 6 to round out the host of six qualifiers ahead of the August tournament.

For the first time in event history, the APL will be contested on a Sunday/Monday – from August 7-8 – instead of on a traditional pair of weekdays. This provides competitors a chance to enjoy the weekend in Williamstown. Waubeeka, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016 – is hosting the APL for the first time.

MGA Amateur Public Links Eligibility: Entries are open to amateur golfers who are bona fide public course players at a public MGA member club (a course/club that provides playing opportunities for the general public seven days a week) and maintain an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 12.0 (as determined by the June 1, 2016 Handicap Revision).
