Headline: Two Past Massachusetts Open Champions - Geoff Sisk & Eric Egloff - Advance to 2016 U.S. Senior Open Championship at Dennis Pines GC Qualifier

Two former MGA Open Champions - Geoff Sisk (top) and Eric Egloff - are off to the 2016 U.S. Senior Open Championship.

South Dennis, MA — Two former Massachusetts Open Champions - Geoffrey Sisk (Marshfield, MA) and Eric Egloff (Sandy Spring, MD) - stole the show and earned the two U.S. Senior Open qualifying spots that were up for grabs on Tuesday at at Dennis Pine Golf Course.

The South Dennis course was one of 34 qualifying sites throughout the United States for the 37th Championship Proper, set for August 11-14 at Ohio’s Scioto Country Club.

Sisk is a six-time winner of the MGA Open (he won the title in 1995, 1997, 2002, 2004, 2006-07), while Egloff captured the title in 2005

On this day, Sisk used a strong finish to secure his spot at Championship Proper. He made the turn at 1-over par 37 and was 2-over par through 14 holes. He then holed out for eagle on the 497-yard, par 5 14th hole and made birdie on the 413-yard, par 4 18th hole to lift himself into a tie for the top spot.

Egloff was the lone golfer in the field who earned the right to join Sisk at Championship Proper. Egloff recorded an eagle on the par-5 12th hole while adding a birdie on the par-4 16th hole to secure his spot.

Amateur Tim Yorke (Canada)and Patrick Horgan (West Palm Beach, Fla.) finished as first and second alternate spots in a three-hole playoff, respectively.

A total of 11 competitors finished at 1-over par 73 and returned to the course to compete for those two alternate spots. Yorke and Horgan made birdie on the first playoff hole - Dennis Pine's 10th - which had seen just five total birdies made by the field on Tuesday.

With the group cut down to two players entering the second playoff hole - No. 11 - Yorke rebounded after sending his tee shot into the high grass along the course’s large pond to make five to tie Horgan and continue the playoff.

However, on the third hole, Yorke beat out Horgan by one stroke on the par-5 12th hole playoff to earn the first alternate spot.
