Headline: 2016 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Qualifying Kicks Off at Monoosnock Country Club and Bayberry Hills Golf Course

The first day of MGA Junior Amateur Qualifying was held at Monoosnock CC (top) and Bayberry Hills GC.

Norton, MA — On Monday, 30 golfers aged 14 to 17 made the cut at Bayberry Hills GC and Monoosnock CC to secure their spot for the Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship, set to begin the first of August at Kernwood CC in Salem.

A pair of golfers shot even par 72 to lead the field of 21 golfers at West Yarmouth’s Bayberry Hills GC to qualify for the MGA’s 98th Junior Amateur Championship.

Charlie Campbell (Captains GC) and David Pergamo (Dennis Pine GC)recorded a combined seven birdies for their top finishes. Campbell tallied four birdies, including three on the back nine, while Pergamo’s three came on par-4s, to lead the way.

Additionally, two other golfers, Peter Solien (Woods Hole GC)and John Mikus (NEPGA JR TOUR) shot 1-over and 2-over at the par 72 course, respectively.

At the second qualifying site, Jack Tobin (Marlborough CC) led the group of nine finishing 1-over par 71 at Monoosnock CC. Other qualifying scores at the Leominster course ranged from 3-over par 73 to 8-over par 78.

Tobin notched four birdies on the morning, including a pair on the par-5s, to highlight his performance.

Two more qualifiers will be held on Tuesday - June 28 - at Southers Marsh GC and Greenock CC. Next week, two additional qualifiers will be held at CC of Billerica and Sassamon Trace GC as the field for the MGA Junior Amateur Championship is finalized.

The MGA Junior Amateur Championship is open to amateur golfers from an MGA Member Club or full-time Massachusetts residents who have reached their 14th birthday and will not reach their 18th birthday by midnight August 3, 2016.
