Norton, MA — Days after learning that he had been named the recipient of the 2013 Patriot Award by the PGA of America, Bob Beach made a special trip to Florida.
Beach, who has served as head golf professional at the Braintree Municipal Golf Course since 1991, has dedicated his career to giving back to those most in need. In particular, he has set a new standard for bringing the game of golf and its inherent values to our country’s veterans.
As part of his work with Golf For All, Beach partnered with the CVS Caremark Charity Classic to host a series of golf clinics for veterans of all abilities in Orlando, Florida.
Headlining the clinics were some of the world's top professional golfers who participated in the 2013 Charity Classic, including Annika Sorenstam, Billy Horschel and Juli Inkster.
"It's an honor to work with Annika, Juli and the CVS Caremark Charity classic on these clinics. Events like these are an important element in the year-round programming Golf For All offers and help us achieve our mission of providing access to the game of golf for people with disabilities," said Beach, who is one of the co-founders of Golf For All. "Our proven programs use the inherent therapeutic qualities of golf to promote inclusion, self-confidence and independence, while also providing a community in which participants can thrive."
Golf For All, a program of the Northeast Accessible Golf Association, provides accessible golf programs and clinics for veterans with physical, emotional and cognitive challenges.
Specializing in teaching golfers with adaptive needs, Beach was on hand at the clinics to provide each veteran with tailored, one-on-one instruction including the use of adaptive equipment such as the special Paragolfer.
"I'm humbled and honored to spend time with this incredible group of veterans who have selflessly dedicated their lives to serving their country," said Sorenstam. "As a golfer, it's especially gratifying to see how the game of golf has such a positive impact in their lives. I'm thrilled to be a part of this special clinic."
Each golf season, Beach conducts weekly golf clnics for veterans at Braintree Municipal and surrounding area golf courses. He is also an on-site presence at the annual golf clinics hosted for the Perkins School for the Blind and Carroll Center for the Blind at MGA Links, the home course of The First Tee of Massachusetts.
