Despite rain and cool temperatures, a field of more than 70 golfers enjoyed the MGA Member Day event at Ledgemont Country Club. |
Seekonk, MA — Despite cool temperatures and a constant drizzle, golfers from across the state took part in today's MGA Member Day event.
The 18-hole Stableford event was held at Ledgemont Country Club, one of the premier private facilities in Massachusetts that also played host to the 2009 Massachusetts Four-Ball Championship.
"We were thrilled that everyone enjoyed the day even though the conditions were not ideal," said Jim Malatino, the MGA's assistant director of rules & competition who manages the MGA Member Days program. "It was a great way to cap off what was a terrific first season."
Today's MGA Member Day at Ledgemont Country Club was the fourth such event held in 2010. Launched earlier this spring, the MGA Member Day program was introduced in order to provide all golfers in the Bay State with an opportunity to compete in an MGA-sponsored tournament. The first two events were held at Crestwood Country Club and Foxborough Country Club. Following an enthusiastic response to those events, two additional events were added at Twin Hills Country Club and Ledgemont Country Club.
On this day, friendly play and competition took center stage as more than 70 golfers took to a challenging Ledgemont Country Club layout and competed in net and gross divisions.
In net division play, Perry Sinasone (Kettle Brook GC) posted 38 points, while Glenn Moreria (Swansea CC) carded 36 points to capture second place.
Jim Dichaira (Franklin CC) came through with 28 points in the gross division to finish just ahead of Edward Cousineau (Poquoy Brook GC), who registered 26 points.
The women's net division was led by Joyce Doucett (Highfields G&CC), who carded 20 points to finish just one point ahead of Mary Shaw (Dennis Pines GC).
