Headline: Defending Champion Ryan Riley Looks to Capture Second Straight Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship at Quashnet Valley CC

For Immediate Release: August 9, 2010

One year ago, defending champion Ryan Riley tied the course record at Franconia Golf Course en route to an impressive score of 13-under par 129.

Mashpee, MA – The time has come for the state's top amateur public links competitors to take to Quashnet Valley Country Club and vie for the 2010 Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship.

Leading the charge and looking for a second straight victory is defending champion Ryan Riley (Norton CC).

One year ago, Riley grabbed regional headlines when he carded a course record score of 8-under par 63 during the final round en route to a four-stroke victory at Franconia Golf Course.

The 29 year old is already off to a strong start in 2010 as he captured the 2010 Massachusetts Four-Ball Championship (with partner Herbie Aikens (Pinehills GC) who is also in the field this week) and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2010 Massachusetts Amateur Championship.

Also in this year's 99-player field is three-time champion Bill Drohen (Brookmeadow CC), the 2008 champion of this event — Todd Ezold (Westover GC) — and four-time George M. Cohen MGA Senior Player of the Year Jim Ruschioni (Monoosnock GC), among others. Interestingly, this event marks only the second MGA Championship event that Ruschioni has competed in thus far in 2010.

As is the case for all MGA Championship events, admission is complimentary throughout the event which begins on Tuesday. Starting times for the first round of play are available to the right.

Here is a complete schedule of events.

Event Schedule

First Round, 18 Holes.

Any tie for first place will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole play-off.
