Headline: Dan Slavin To Represent the Bay State Well... Qualifies for Next Month's 2010 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship

Atkinson, NH — A talented field of the region's top junior amateur players took to Atkinson Resort & Country Club on Wednesday in hopes of advancing to the 2010 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
Following a grueling 36 holes, one local player shined and captured one of the four qualifying spots that were available at that site.
Dan Slavin (Waban, MA) posted identical scores of 1-over par 73 for a final score of 2-over par 146. He finished just two strokes behind medalist Chris Houston (Gilford, NH).
As a result of their performance, Slavin, Houston and fellow qualifiers Jamison Randall (Cumberland, RI) and Damon Salo (New Ipswich, NH) will now compete at the 2010 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship scheduled for July 19-24 at Egypt Valley Country Club in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
"I have been fortunate to watch Dan's game mature over the years," said Scott Whitcomb, the MGA's director of field operations who also serves on the USGA's Junior Amateur Committee. "He is growing as a player and I couldn't be happier to see him earn the chance to compete against the nation's best next month."
The Belmont Country Club member is coming off his junior season at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School where he was named a Boston Globe All Star in 2009.
Also qualifying for this year's U.S. Junior Amateur Championship was Chelso Barrett (Winchendon School CC) who advanced at a qualifier held at the Peddie School Golf Club in Hightstown, New Jersey. Barrett, who finished as second alternate in qualifying for this event one year ago, made sure that he would not repeat the same result as he posted a score of even par 144.
It has been a stellar and whirlwind few weeks of golf for Barrett, who also qualified for the 2010 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. He accomplished that feat at Bretwood Golf Course (NH) on Wednesday.
