Norton, MA — In preparation for the 2010 season, the Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA) is currently accepting applications for its annual P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover later no later than December 18 at 4:30 p.m.

P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship
Massachusetts Golf Association

Purpose
To provide a comprehensive introduction and training experience for a qualified intern to prepare for a career in golf administration.

Term of Internship
6 months; April through October, 2010

Location
The Intern will be based at the MGA headquarters in Norton and will likely travel
within the state.

Job Description

Rules & Competition

  • Assist in the organization and administration of tournaments, including MGA, New England Golf Association, and USGA sponsored events.
  • Receive on-site experience of Association tournaments, including coordination of preliminary arrangements with the host clubs, course set-up, and organizing and working with the volunteer committee members prior to and throughout an event.
  • Assist with the preparation of local rules for tournament events and interpretations of rules.

Handicapping & Membership

  • Assist with the annual renewal of memberships, including processing new individual applications and reinstatements received from member clubs.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries regarding handicap record information and handicap procedures.

Course Rating

  • Assist in measuring member courses in preparation for re-rating.
  • Provide on-site support in organizing and coordinating course rating teams to re-rate member
    clubs.
  • Additional experience will be offered with other administrative responsibilities as schedules permit throughout the term.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a high interest in golf administration, verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency with MS Office programs. Not eligible for consideration are MGA or USGA employees or officials or their relatives, or past USGA grant recipients.

Compensation
This is a paid internship.

Housing & Transportation
The Intern must arrange for housing in the Massachusetts area and provide own
automotive transportation. The Intern will be reimbursed for all related expenses when traveling on MGA business and reimbursed for the use of personal automobile while on official business.

Office Attire
The Intern will be expected to wear casual, neat, business-type attire for all office
responsibilities.
